Holy Trinity’s Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the Catholic faith formation program for children ages 3-6. Our mission is to provide a place and time for children to experience God”s loving presence. We proclaim the words of Isaiah, “I have called you by name; you are mine….because you are precious in my sight.” (IS.43:1,4)
Good Shepherd was founded by Dr. Sofia Cavalletti, a Scripture and Hebrew scholar in Rome, after over forty years of work with children. Sophia and her collaborator, Gianna Gobbi, successfully developed this form of Catechesis using Montessori principles. They provided an environment called an atrium in which certain Biblical and liturgical themes suitable to the children’s development needs are presented.
Some examples of the materials presented are clay figures of Jesus and his disciples at the Last Supper, interactive maps of Israel and the city of Jerusalem as well as mustard seeds and pearls to help ponder the parables of Jesus. All these materials and more, aid the child in discovering more about God’s plan. This prayerful work of the children invites them into a relationship with God, and the life of the church.
We have two sessions during the 2018-2019 school year:
- Mondays all day (school students)
- Thursday mornings @ 9:30-10:45 (ages 3-6)
Cost of the program is $100 for parishioners and $120 for non-parishioners unless your child is enrolled in Holy Trinity’s preschool or kindergarten classes.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd follows the Holy Trinity School Religious Education calendar and policies for holidays and cancellations.
